One of my favorite parts of the day is going to get Mikey out of his crib when he wakes up in the morning. I love to pick him up and just stick my face into his hair and take a big giant inhale. I'll admit, it sounds gross, but I think that it's the most wonderful smell. Pure Mikey. I even like his stinky morning breath.
It's also the cuddliest part of the day. He has to make sure that he brings ALL of his blankies (there's three of 'em) with him when I take him out of the crib. Then, we go downstairs and eat breakfast together with him sitting on my lap.
I used to do the same thing with Katie when she was his age.
I wish I could bottle up that morning smell and save it forever. It's something that pictures and videos will just never compare to.
Soon, Mikey will get old enough that he won't need me to come and get him in the morning anymore. He'll either bound down the stairs demanding breakfast and a show or scream for me to come and "WAKE ME UP!!!!!".
Sigh.
And, I found out last night what Katie does when she can't sleep. She stares at the wall. Yep. But, she isn't just staring.
You see, we have a texture on all of our walls. It's kinda hard to explain. Here. Look at the picture below. Look beyond the crazy looking Katie spiders to the wall beyond. See that texture there?
Anyways, Katie stares at the texture on the wall next to her bed and finds little pictures or "things" in them. Kinda like the ancients did with the stars or something. She's making little wall texture constellations.
Last night, she pointed out to me "a Mommy Luma holding the hand of a baby Luma", an "alien with a heart shaped head that has a backpack on", "this one looks like a moose", and the list goes on.
So, I don't really enjoy her morning breath anymore. But, I love her creative spark. It amazes me every day.
