May 2017

May brought with it spiders.

Lots of big, giant, humongous spiders.

They come out about this time of year.  Finding mates and all that jazz is what they say.

This one creeped out of a corner in our garage while Huzbend was working out.
He does not like spiders.

I "took care of him" and brought peace to the household.
Okay.  Not the household.
The kids thought he was cute.
Peace to the Huzbend.

This is a Mikey picture.
I'm pretty sure that bottom guy is Mickey Mouse.
Thinking the top guys is either Goofy - but he has no hat - or Pluto.

This year, in addition to book reports each month, Katie had to do a creative project reflecting a book she read.  Some months they did an advertisement poster, some months a comic and some months a diorama.

It was a diorama month.

This one represents "The School of Good and Evil".

For Mother's Day, we headed to Seattle to participate in The Color Run again this year.

We had dinner the night before at The Melting Pot.
It has lots of gluten free options and the kids love dipping and cooking their own food.

The two times we've been to this restaurant, Mikey has wanted melted white chocolate for dessert and everyone votes against him and goes for the dark chocolate.

Here he is planning his revenge.

After dinner, the kids wanted to go swimming.
As usual.

This is Huzbend's, "Do I HAVE to go in the frigid pool?" look.

I say, "Yes".
'Cause I ain't gonna do it.

No kids were harmed in the making of this blog.....

See?  Still smiling.
They had a lot of fun playing games and having a cannonball competition.

Some had smiles that were a little TOO big.

Like CRAZY big.
She got a little hysterical.

Early morning pre-run family photo....Try #1.
Hmmmm.

Muuuuuuch better.

And they're off!

We made it through the first station (foam) together.

Mikey was getting side cramps and well, he just has shorter legs.

Katie wanted to run and so she took off with Huzbend in tow.

I hung back with Mikey.
We ran a little, but walked most of the way.
Which was all good.
I really, REALLY hurt my ankle in an indoor soccer match the night before.
Thought I might've sprained it or something.
It was barely manageable, but we made it.

At the finish, there's always a big color throwing party with dance music.
It's pretty crazy.

Mikey still doesn't like color in his face.
But he was able to manage this year by pulling his hat down over his face.

So, there were smiles from both kids at the finish this year.

Post-race snack with smiles.

Followed by the post-run family photo.

Oh.  You noticed the International Fountain there in the background of the other photo above?
Yeah.

Our kids CANNOT stay out of this fountain.
It was cold this day, so they actually chose not to run into the water.
It was surprising.

But, that didn't stop them from harassing this pigeon.

"Are you ready to leave?"

"What?  NO.  We haven't caught the pigeon yet."

Soccer season was in full swing.

It's hard work coaching 6-7 year olds.
Not really.
They just wanna play.
I spent a lot of the time yelling encouraging things at them and pulling them off the field when it was time to sub.

Mikey had a great time.
He was very confident this time around.

He did a great job and I was so proud of him.
He always tried his hardest and was positive and supportive of his teammates.

He spent his time on the sidelines sitting with on his favorite fan.

This is what Katie did during most of the games (and practices - because she had to come to them too).

Not sure if she is playing her DS under there or napping?

That mid-May soccer game fell on a beautiful Saturday.
It was warm and sunny.

The kids came home and had a post-game hose-fest on the deck.

We have this hose that goes crazy when you turn it on.
The kids call it "the serpent hose" because it gets all wiggly when the water runs through it.
It shoots water everywhere.

They had a good time getting soaked.

Ralph doesn't like "the serpent hose".
He'll jump in any lake, pool, or puddle but he HATES being sprayed by hoses.
He was hiding inside.

He actually spends most of his time in this position.
Flopped under the computer desk in our kitchen keeping our feet warm.

He has such a boopable nose.

That Sunday was an IV Infusion.
It was such a beautiful day.
What a bummer to be stuck inside the infusion unit for 4 hours.

Katie made the best of it though.
She always does.

Here she is with her heat packs on warming up those veins.
It was a lucky month!  They got a vein in one poke.

After that happy weekend, the kids came down with coughs.
Katie had had her cough for a while and Mikey must've caught whatever Katie had going on.

We took a tour of the new school Mikey will be attending next year due to the boundary changes in our district.  The kids ran around with some friends they knew.

It must've been a bit too much excitement.....

....Because, two days later, we ended up like this in an Urgent Care Center.

Katie's cough was sounding pretty bad.  I knew something was going on.
Mikey's was not as bad, but I decided to have someone check him out too.

The Doc listened to them, ordered x-rays for them both and gave them breathing treatments.

BOTH OF THEM WERE DIAGNOSED WITH PNUEMONIA.

With the breathing treatment and the meds, Mikey's blood oxygen levels recovered quickly and remained steady.  He was able to go home.
Huzbend got a lift from work to the Urgent Care Center and then drove him home.

Katie had to stay a bit longer as her blood oxygen was not recovering and actually got a little bit worse.
They had to get out the nasal cannulas and shoot some oxygen in there.

They couldn't get her to a level they were happy with, and so they had her transferred to the ER at Seattle Children's.

Before her transfer, they had to insert an IV line.
For her regular IVs, we put numbing cream on so that it takes away the sting and there's not much pain.
The Urgent Care place didn't do this.
Katie is a screamer.
I mean, like, bust your ear drums screams.
I think she made the nurse deaf as they tried to insert the IV.
I think it took two tries.

After the IV was inserted and antibiotics were started, the ambulance showed up.

I think this is the second ambulance ride for Katie in her lifetime.

We got to the ER and funny thing is, her O2 levels had risen.
My belief is that the supersonic screaming due to the IV insertion popped open her lungs.

She spent about an hour or so in the ER for observation and then they let us go.
Phew!
No overnight hospital stay for us!
We're about half way through another hospital-free year.
(knockonwood)

Memorial Day weekend was kind of a bummer.
We couldn't go anywhere or do anything because the kids were recovering and had a huge regimen of medications.

Most of the weekend was spent like this.....

No they are not naked.

April 2024 - Part 2

I'm not gonna lie. The rest of April was about Cinderella and pretty much just Cinderella.  We arrived back from Mexico for the start of...
