Katie spent the week of July 30th through August 4th at Camp Oasis.
Because she would be entering her Senior year in the fall, she qualified as an L.I.T. (Leader in Training). She was able to enjoy the fun of camp but was also expected to organize and run events like the Talent Show and the "Gooey Gala" dance.
In between all that "work", she learned a traditional Mexican dance....
....Did some art.....
....Participated in some team building exercises while in the air......
.....and met Mike McCready (again).
They also had a cardboard boat race, campfires, meals that were just "meh", s'mores, cabin chats with other teens that have IBD, a super fun dance and the talent show.
The L.I.T. created Talent Show theme was "Star Wars: The Crohn Wars" and had an L.I.T-led episodic skit. The skit included Humira "lightsabers" that were actually giant bubble wands and characters like:
Stormpoopers
C3-POO
Princess Remicade
Dr. Palpatine
Obiwan Stelara
Luke & Anakin Colonlocker
(Darth Vader was just Darth Vader, in case you were wondering)
Also included was lyrical prose such as this:
"This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obiwan, I need a bathroom!"
"Join me, Luke, and we can rule Camp Oasis together."
"Luke, I am your father." "What? Does that mean I have colitis too?" "Yes, Luke, embrace your cramps and join me!"
"We did it! We saved the galaxy and put the dark side in remission!"
Here is Katie as the venerable R2-Prednisone (she has a paper on her head on the right).
While Katie was off having fun, Mikey had a belated birthday celebration.
He once again invited his friends to hit up the local community pool and then have lunch at a local old-timey drive-in burger joint.
It was a great day for a swim.
And take a look at what was in them.
How the time flies.....AK!
I'm not tearing up, you are!
My aunt and uncle came to visit!
They were here for the Red Sox/Mariners game and did some touristy stuff in the area.
It was great to laugh and catch up.
It had been SOOOO long.
We had to do the picture thing.
This is what happens when you let Mikey take your picture...
Gotta love my orange socks.
Ralph couldn't keep his nose out of our picture.
Mikey and Katie received birthday cards from Auntie Sheila, Uncle Chris & Cousin Matty.
Mad CASH!
Euros, that is.
