My pal Sharon happened to be passing through town on business this week. We were able to hook up for a heapin' helpin' of Mexican food and a good ole dose catchin' up.
I met Sharon in college. We hit it off immediately. We both had a quirky sense of humor and weren't afraid to show it. For example, we used to have races down the hallways of our dorm with pillow cases over our heads. Mind you, the pillows were STILL IN the pillow cases. We figured it would cushion the blow if we were to run into a wall.
We eventually became roomates and were lucky enough to score a room that had it's own sink and toilet. How sweet was that? Anyways, many more good times were had. I mean good times in addition to and seperate from the toilet, you weirdos. Sigh.
Of course, there were some bad times too. We had some arguments. We had some hurt feelings. I'm sad to admit most of it was my insensitive fault. But, we moved on. All things pass.
Up until this week, we hadn't seen eachother in what was probably 10 or more years. We rarely speak on the phone and email only occasionally. It's kinda weird, but she has a knack of "feeling" when I need a call. She'll always say, "I was just thinking about you..." It's almost like she's psychic or something.
Even though we don't connect very often, I count Sharon as one of my closest friends. I know that if I ever need anyone, she'll be there. I hope she knows that it works the other way too. I'm always here.
Dinner was awesome. I had a great time. It was like we hadn't even been apart that long. We just picked up where we left off. That is like, so great.
There are a few "important things" that you do on your way through life. I would say making a few really good friends should be one of those "important things." You know that Family will be there for you. It's kinda their job to be there. But, there is nothing like the feeling of knowing that someone else out there has your back, no matter what.
You don't believe me?!?! OH-HOOOOOOO! Think you're so smart do ya? Don't make me call in my reinforcements.
You're gonna make me do it aren't you?
Here. You can learn a little something from my friends Woody and Buzz. In case you don't know, they were in a couple of little films called, "Toy Story" and "Toy Story II". Let 'em have it, boys!
You've got a friend in me.
You've got a friend in me.
When the road looks rough ahead,
And you're miles and miles
From your nice warm bed.
You just remember what your old pal said,
You've got a friend in me.
Yeah, you've got a friend in me.
You've got a friend in me.
You've got a friend in me.
You've got troubles, well I've got 'em too.
There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you.
We stick together and we see it through.
'Cause you've got a friend in me.
Yeah, you've got a friend in me.
Some other folks might be a little bit smarter than I am.
Bigger and stronger too.
Maybe.
But none of them will ever love you.
The way I do.
Just me and you.
And as the years go by,
Our friendship will never die.
You're gonna see,
It's our destiny.
You've got a friend in me.
You just remember what your old pal said,
You've got a friend in me!
