Catching Up Summer: Part Two

And then we went camping on the Oregon coast at a place called Nehalem Bay State Park.

With, like, our entire neighborhood.

It was a LOOOOOOONG drive.

It was long enough to drive two children to extreme boredom.

But, we finally made it.  Katie disappeared to do crafts with a friend and Mikey climbed a tree.

There were lots of awesome climbing trees there.

We gathered for dinner and then a round of s'mores.
All in all, there were 12 adults, 12 kids and 3 dogs.

After s'mores, it was time for "Movie Night".
They watched 'The Muppets'.

The next morning, Katie and I hit the beach.

Katie ran down the dunes towards the surf to look for shells.
It was windy and a bit chilly, so we had the beach to ourselves.

And then it got TOO cold and we ran back up the dune and back to the campsites.

There's a lot of sand on those beaches.
My shoes couldn't take it.

Later that afternoon, it was Mikey's turn to go to the beach.

(It was hard to pull both kids at the same time away from the fun back at camp)

This is the fun I was talking about.
Making a train with scooters.

We did manage to get all the kids to sit still for a group photo at one point.
I think it was after the pinata, 'cause I see some lollipops.

Then the sun came out and the kids made ziploc ice cream.

It was surprisingly tasty.  They had a choice of three flavors:
vanilla, real strawberry or fake strawberry.

For dinner we headed back to civilization.

Before we ate dinner, we stopped to visit the famous Haystack Rock.

It was once again windy.
The perfect opportunity to fly a kite.

Mikey liked it.

And then, it was time for massive sand excavation.

Twelve kids can dig up A LOT of sand.

Mikey discovered that he could wear A LOT of sand.

We happened to get there at about low tide and were able to peruse at the tidal pools.

There were lots of cool creatures.

And then, the next day, it was time to go home.

Mikey had one last tree climb.

Katie decided that she was going to drive home.

Before we left we made one last visit to the beautiful sandy beach.
This time as a family.

Yay!  A family selfie.

The kids had a great time running up and down the dunes.
Sometimes they even slid on their bellies.

And, well, that led to Mikey getting sand in his eyes.

Again.

Every time we went to the beach that weekend, he got sand in his eyes.

He told me that he, "Never, never, never wanted to go to a beach ever again!"

But, soon, all the sand was cried out.

With some hugs from Mommy, it was all better and he once again loved the beach.

Here's a video of our exploits......

Next time, it's a birthday party!

Did you know someone was turning 4?

April 2024 - Part 2

I'm not gonna lie. The rest of April was about Cinderella and pretty much just Cinderella.  We arrived back from Mexico for the start of...
